I've lent my camera to a friend for a few days, so rummaged around in my archives to find something to post. These were taken way back in April/May (bluebell season in the UK), when I first got my DSLR camera. Considering I had NO idea what I was doing with the actual camera, these shots worked out alright by some small miracle!

Sorry there haven't been any updates in a while, life in Paris has been so very busy lately. Just a few shots taken whilst trying to distract myself from the fact that I'd taken one too many wrong turns in a new quartier one evening a few weeks back. I like how full of colour these shots are.

Homemade pinhole camera

One saturday afternoon a long time ago, a friend and I decided that we would like to have a go at making our own pinhole cameras. After much hard labour tracing templates, cutting out cardboard, glueing things together, painting our cameras and generally having a merry time, we eventually took our cameras out for a spin around the city today. Here are some of the results from my test roll of film. I kept forgetting to wind my film on before taking the next photo, and so most of what you can see are photos made up of 2 or 3 superimposed images. Trying to get to grips with exposure times was quite a challenge, and all of these were taken whilst hand-held, which accounts for the blurriness. One of the best bits was going to have a drink whilst waiting eagerly for our photos to be developed, just like in the good old days. Definitely an experience to be repeated! (p.s-the real photos are nice and shiny, unlike the scanned-in versions)

Today, it snowed in the french capital. I was quite unprepared for such weather and had to shelter under some flowers in a hanging basket in a local park, whilst attempting to fix my now beyond repair boots. I love the way that a light sprinkling of snow can transform even the most desolate park into a place of magical tranquility. (best enjoyed enlarged) Had I not been running to catch my train home, I could easily have spent all evening in this Narnia-esque land.

As night fell on the day that it eventually snowed, the sky turned a really beautiful blue colour.I love the way that the cool tones in this shot really reflect just how utterly freezing cold it was (-6 windchill!)

I love photography for lots of different reasons, but have come to realise that what lies at the heart of my photos is one very simple principle.

I don't photograph what I see, but rather what I feel.

A picture has to speak to me, move me in some way or another and make me think. In just the same that I use my camera to capture a single moment, I want my photos to capture me, to draw me in, to ask to be pondered upon and delighted in. Images are powerful, and I love that everyone has different favourite photogaphs for different reasons!

...but thats what you get when you take a photo aimed directly at the sun. This was the moment that I managed to catch the sun being eclipsed by the Eiffel Tower while I was sailing down the river Seine yesterday. The sun itself was completely hidden just long enough to get a snap, what you can see is the halo of glare it was giving off!

My friend has a brilliant SLR camera that he sometimes lets me play with. And yet somehow despite my best efforts, having all that wonderful hi-tech equipment in my hands drains the creativity from within me.

I'm a simple girl, and for me, I love the challenge of getting the most out of my wonderfully simple point and shoot camera. I hope you're enjoying the results too!

Sorry there are so many pictures of the same thing, its just I've been waiting seemingly forever to stumble across some broken glass to photograph. Found it this morning at my local train station, after probably having spent days rushing past it without even noticing how beautiful it is. I was mesmerised. Something that I love doing in Paris is strolling through the Cour Carre near the Louvre. Under the arches leading to the Palais Royal, one can often find buskers making the most of the amazing acoustics. It is pure joy to hear beautiful music floating through the air as you take in sights of the incredible architecture all around.

Antonio Canova's beautiful sculpture is quite possibly my favourite thing in the Louvre museum.I find it astounding how an inanimate object, a simple block of marble has been recreated into something that conveys such depth of feeling. Today I happened to pop in as the sun was pouring through the windows.
